2/27 COPS Hiring

On March 1, the COPS Office will open a new round of hiring grants.    This grant provides funding for the hiring and/or rehiring of  entry-level police officers for a period of 26 months.  Consistent with recent changes to the program, departments may use the funds to rehire officers who were laid off.  However, only funding for entry-level positions is available. While, there is $111 million in funding available this year, the President's FY 2013 budget more than doubles this amount. (For more information, please see our recent post on the proposed budget).  There are several new requirements this year.  They include: The grant will pay 75% of entry-level salaries.  This means departments must certify a 25% cash match.  While the COPS Office previously 100% of salaries …
