On January 18, Community Grants visited the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas to welcome them as a new client. The visit provided us the opportunity to meet with key staff, discuss needs and begin to develop a grant seeking strategy. We were particularly gratified by the large number of non-profits that took the time to meet with us. The Unified Government represents over 157,000 people and is part of two-state metropolitan area of almost 3 million people.
Community Grants Associates certainly hope to help the community continue moving forward. In 2011, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas was on the several communities in the United States selected by Google to receive an ultra high-speed fiber network. This year, Cerner Corporation hopes to complete construction of a 600,000 square foot office complex in the county that should bring 4,000 new healthcare technology jobs. As part of that project, Sporting Kansas City, the local MLS franchise, will open the New LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, a modern 18,000 venue for the team. The stadium will also serve as site for qualifying matches for upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
We feel very fortunate to be part of this excitement and will work hard to ensure that benefits flow to all members of the community. Our local representative continues to meet with community members and local government representatives. The close coordination between the municipalities in the region makes them an attractive target for federal and foundation funding. Community Grants is of the opinion that foundations throughout the United States need to pay more attention to middle of the country as place of common sense and cost-effective approaches that support services for the greatest number of citizens. If you are from the area and would like more information or are interested in how we can help your organization or government successfully compete for needed funding, please contact us (617) 202-3926.
